Using weather-proof barcode labels

If you use barcode labels or asset tags in your factory you’ll be aware of the many benefits they possess. However, in some environments standard barcode labels might not be able to cope with the demands they are put under. In these environments you might need a type of barcode label which can withstand a great deal of wear and tear.

Situations which might need durable barcode labels include:

• Outdoors – subject to rain, snow and sunlight
• Abrasion – subject to rubbing or friction on the label
• Chemical – exposure to chemicals which may weaken the label structure
• Heat and cold – exposure to conditions where high or low temperatures can be expected
• Dirt and grime – exposure to dirty or dusty conditions where the label may be damaged

All the above situations call for a barcode label or an asset tag which displays hardwearing tendencies.

Durable barcode labels are usually over-laminated with a protective coating which protects them from the above conditions. In some environments the label may even need to be made from aluminium or another metal so the information on the label does not fade and the label will not disintegrate.

Whatever situation you have, you should be able to find a label which suits your application.
