QR codes to feature on cans of Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola has just put pen to paper in a marketing agreement with ScanLife which will see them print QR codes on all Coca-Cola Classic and Coca-Cola Zero cans in Spain.

The QR codes, which work in the same way as barcodes, can be printed onto any type of packaging and can be read by any QR code reader application. The idea, of course, is to strengthen Coca-Cola brand interaction with consumers, who have embraced this new type of technology.

When a Coca-Cola customer scans the code, say with their smartphone, they will be directed to Coca-Cola affiliated content, such as information or videos about the 2012 European Football Championship or Coca-Cola’s online community forum.

The project has even featured on TV commercials in Spain. Paco Rodriguez the digital manager at Coca-Cola said:

“The results we have seen are extremely impressive. Thanks to intelligent QR Codes from the ScanLife platform we are able to constantly surprise our consumers with new content, strengthen our position in the mobile space, and understand what interests our consumers.”

Coca-Cola has more information on their website about barcode readers and how to scan QR coded Coca-Cola cans.
