Colour Printing

We take great pride in our colour printing and are able to satisfy the most exacting standards that are demanded by a company’s design team. This can be achieved in one of two ways ether through the four primary colours using our digital printing or Pantone matching.

Most people are aware of the four primary colours and how the modern computer printer will separate these and produce the right colour, for most products this method is perhaps the most popular, pantone on the other hand uses a system call PMS which stands for Pantone Matching System, which uses pre-determined, published colour formulas to create a large number of ink colours. The system allows the design team to colour match specific designs and so no matter how the colour first came into the product or label it will still be accurately matched.

With DataLabel HP Indigo digital print technology we can accommodate short or long runs for all your colour labels, perfect colour matching, materials to suit the product and the destination and transportation environment where the product will be used and sold, in a size to suit.

Reverse Printed Labels

Reverse printed labels are becoming a more common sight on items such as cosmetics and food items as these give the manufacturer more print space to advise on such things as cooking times, safety advice and with cosmetics for example product content information. The manufacturer can have a peelable label which has the company logo on the front and the product name and on the reverse when peeled away, information on the back of the label as well as further information on the label remaining on the product, so in effect the print space available has been increased substantially without increasing the size of the label.

So whatever your particular requirement, DataLabel can supply high quality, cost effective reverse printed labels in any size, shape or colour.  Our full colour reverse printed labels can include for example; any logo image or text, you can include cooking instructions if needed, bar-coded and personalised in any way to suit your company’s requirements or specialist branding. Simply call us and we will be happy to discuss reverse printed labels, and give a no obligation quotation.

The important cryogenic label

IVF treatment has been in the news recently and involves couples who are struggling to have a baby and there has been concerns amongst many that the guidance is too restrictive for those wanting NHS treatment, so the present situation could be about to change. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence has suggested that the treatment should be offered to couples after two years of failed attempts, not the current three and that the age limit should also be extended from 39 years up to 42 years.

As many know human eggs and sperm can be stored from donors’ and often is, also if a person is undergoing radiation treatment or surgery and can no longer produce eggs or sperm. These specimens’ are stored at very low temperature through a liquid nitrogen process at around minus 196 centigrade.  Naturally disasters such as labels losing adhesion or print becoming unreadable are completely unacceptable and require a very special label. We produce labels for use in commercial freezers for applications such as cold food storage, but these labels are unsuitable for cryogenic temperatures which require a special label which will withstand these low temperatures, good adhesion and shear resistance at low temperature when applied to both glass and treated vials. The labels can be either printed or plain and we can supply in any size and shape to individual requirements.

Designing a stand out label

The first thing that most customers see in a shop or supermarket as they look through the many products is the label. An attractive well presented label will make the product stand out and it also can promote brand awareness which is becoming a must today with all the competing brands we see on the shelves. The brand will immediately catch the eye of the purchaser, particularly if they use the product frequently and this is just one important reason to take time in designing the label. There are several elements that go into labelling a product.

Firstly decide upon the size of the label, the product may determine this and ask yourself do you want it to cover the whole product, or just enough to get attention. Always ensure that you have your company logo on the label. Have a look at your competitors’ products ensure that yours are completely different, colours and design and shape are important here. Product information is important particularly if you have to comply with certain regulations or safety advice. Generate a bar code for both stock and retailer selling information such as inventory and purchase price. Request a sample of the printed label before the production run begins, to ensure it is just what you are looking for and make any changes you think will improve the label. Our design team will be happy to help with any queries and guide you through any process you are unclear about.

Demonstrating the importance of correct labelling

If anything has emerged from the current scandal about how horse meat has been found in many products which should be 100% pure beef, it is that correct labelling is vital if we are to have confidence in the product. Naturally we cannot and certainly would not comment about this current situation, the investigation is ongoing and no doubt we shall find out in due course just how it went wrong. However, it is pretty clear that because of the stringent rules that apply to labelling meat products’ from abattoir to producer and finally the supermarkets, authorities have been able to trace back through the food chain.

We manufacture and supply labels for various food products and these have to have certain information on them. They also have to withstand differing conditions, this can in cold stores, wet conditions, and large temperature changes and in many cases they have to be tamper proof for obvious reasons. The printing has to be clear and concise, and the material from which the label is manufactured able to cope with the conditions and the correct adhesive used, Data-Label has them all.

Synthetic labelling

We can provide you with labels which are water proof as well as being proof against the weather and many chemicals as well, these fall into a category of synthetic labels and should you business require labels which will stand up to harsher environments, we are sure that we can help.
Using polyester for your labelling requirements ensures that these can be highly resistant and fully water and weather proof, they are extremely durable and resistant to becoming degraded through wear such as being scuffed, subject to chemicals, sunlight, high heat, tearing and from being scratched. Normally the polyester label will have a high gloss finish, tell us what you will require the label for and we will discuss polyester labelling with you.

One of the most popular labels that we supply is the vinyl label which is excellent for items that require a label that is tougher than a paper label and will withstand wear and tear, are waterproof and difficult to scratch. Using vinyl can mean that the printing of the label is sharp and clear, certain to make your product stand out and they will not deteriorate in humid or wet conditions. This make them ideal for environments that demands a label that will still be readable in a garden centres or even for items found in ships chandlers for use the maritime world. Our synthetic vinyl and polyester labels will last for years if required.

Label buying guide

We try to make it as easy as possible for our customers when they require to label a product and to make things possible we like to provide a few pointers to help make this as simple as we can.

When it comes to pricing, we can reduce the price per label by having a longer run, so the more you order the cheaper unit cost they become. Similarly, the fewer colours the less we would charge and it is worth remembering that if you decide to change or amend the artwork, this too can affect the price. Choosing one of the 5,000 stock cutters we hold will be cheaper than having a label which requires a bespoke cutter.

Tell us what you will be using the label for and we can suggest alternatives at differing prices, what is the environment the label will end up in, will you need a waterproof label, or one that is easily peeled off and how long is the label likely to have to remain on the item?

Will you require a fully pre-printed label or will you need space to print your own variable data? These are a few of the things that we will discuss with you in order that you not only get the very best price, but also a label which you will be proud to fix to your items or products.

QR Codes on labels

QR codes are everywhere and they can be found on most products you will see them on billboards, magazines, products, very soon they will be common place on items such as airline tickets so that you scan a QR code on their smart phones at security and the gate at boarding in place of the current boarding pass. QR codes or quick response, codes are an innovation that is designed to provide customers with information about a product, company or service.

We will be happy to talk to you if you are considering using QR codes as a marketing strategy as there are some important things that you should be aware of before you order pre-printed QR code labels. In order for this to be effective as a marketing tool, a QR code has to be readable by the consumer’s smart phone. Often it is mistakenly thought that it is the size of the code image which can be scanned; no it’s the size of the modules, the little black squares, which make up the image.

In common with bar codes scanning it is the distance that also affects the size of the QR code, the further away the camera is from the QR code, the smaller the code will appear in the camera’s viewport, which in turn will cause the modules to appear smaller and unreadable. There are many ways to use your QR codes. Let us know your idea and we can put it on a custom label, just for you.

What are vinyl labels?

Well these are basically a sticky label and without them today it would be hard to imagine life in the retail sector and pharmaceutical industry which relies heavily upon them. Take a look in your cupboard or along a supermarket shelf and there you will see vinyl labels of every description. To make these vinyl labels requires a printing process to describe the contents or to communicate other information such as instruction for use of the product and these are fitted to the package or jar. To produce these labels the graphics or printed word is applied on a thin film which and then an adhesive is applied. This can be a permanent or easy peel, freezer proof and can be produced either in the standard matt finish, or given a high gloss finish, which also acts as a protective film, and helps add a level of protection against moisture.

To give some examples of vinyl labels we have these on wine bottles, security labelling, pharmaceutical labelling, food  packs such as freezer packs to name only a few. These can also be used as an advertising medium often being used either in windows or other external surfaces; the use of the vinyl stickers is endless.
